Correction -- 2026-09-09. This edition was corrected after publication. In the opponent platoon section, nine sentences printed each batter's performance against right-handed pitching and then ranked it against the league-wide qualified-hitter pool rather than against the batters who face right-handed pitching -- two different groups, so each of those standings placed the hitter in a field he was not being measured in. One further sentence ranked a left-handed-pitching figure the same way, and a sentence about the starting pitcher measured him against the wrong group of pitchers. The rankings and the group each is measured against have been corrected; the batting figures themselves are unchanged. The edition as originally published is preserved in this project's git history; the full record of archive corrections is kept in ARCHIVE-CORRECTIONS.md.

STARTING PITCHERS
Andre Pallante (RHP, Cardinals) enters tonight at 12-6, 3.57 ERA across 136.0 innings, with 97 strikeouts and 41 walks. Among NL pitchers with at least 60 innings, he ranks 42nd of 106 in ERA (league average 3.92) and 5th of 106 in ground-ball rate (61.6%; league average 48.4%) -- a profile built on contact management rather than swing-and-miss. His WHIP of 1.24 sits right at the NL average of 1.25 (43rd of 106).
Ryan Feltner (RHP, Rockies) comes in at 5-9, 5.84 ERA across 101.2 innings, with 76 strikeouts and 45 walks. Among NL pitchers with at least 60 innings, he ranks 103rd of 106 in ERA (league average 3.92) and 104th of 106 in WHIP (1.55; league average 1.25). He has allowed 19 home runs in 20 starts, a number that looms large at Coors Field. His strikeout rate of 16.7% ranks 90th of 106 (league average 21.8%), and his walk rate of 9.9% is above the league average -- a combination that has kept lineups in favorable counts throughout the season.

Two Cardinals arms are sidelined: Hunter Dobbins (right forearm tightness) and Peter Strzelecki (right forearm extensor inflammation) are on the injured list, thinning the bullpen depth for tonight's game. Andre Pallante (placed on the injured list retroactive to August 18 with right elbow inflammation) is listed as the St. Louis starter tonight and is expected to be activated before first pitch; as of this writing, the activation has not posted. In the infield, Blaze Jordan (left ankle sprain) and JJ Wetherholt (right wrist tendinitis) are out, removing two options at the corner and up the middle. Everson Pereira (left hand contusion) is also unavailable in the outfield. Ramón Urías returned from the 60-day injured list on August 23, adding a body back to the infield mix.
For Colorado, Kyle Karros is on the concussion IL after being activated and re-placed within two days. Kyle Freeland (cervical radiculopathy) is on the 15-day IL. Hunter Goodman returned from the injured list on August 25, and Tyler Freeman returned August 23 and is available for tonight.
2A: BVP -- CARDINALS BATTERS VS OPPONENT STARTER
| Player | PA | AB | H | AVG | OBP | SLG | HR | BB | K |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Iván Herrera | 5 | 5 | 1 | .200 | .200 | .200 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

| Ramón Urías | 2 | 1 | 0 | .000 | .500 | .000 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Small sample: Iván Herrera (5 PA), Jordan Walker (2 PA), Ramón Urías (2 PA).
Career BvP against Ryan Feltner is thin across the board -- all three rows carry samples below 10 AB and are flagged as noise. Iván Herrera has 5 PA (5 AB, 1 hit, .200/.200/.200); Jordan Walker has 2 PA (2 AB, 0 hits); Ramón Urías has 2 PA (1 AB, 0 hits, one walk for a .500 OBP). None of the three meets the danger thresholds (10 PA and .400 AVG), and the walk-inflated OBP in Urías's line reflects a single plate appearance -- not a pattern. Six Cardinals starters tonight have no career history against Feltner at all: José Fermín, Joshua Báez, Leo Bernal, Thomas Saggese, Nathan Church, and Pedro Pagés.
No significant bench BvP history. With career history essentially absent for this group, his 2026 platoon work against right-handed batters is the relevant lens for tonight's matchup.

Small sample: Ezequiel Tovar (6 PA), Adael Amador (4 PA), Willi Castro (6 PA), Hunter Goodman (3 PA), Jordan Beck (3 PA), Mickey Moniak (3 PA), Jake McCarthy (2 PA), Troy Johnston (3 PA).
Every career BvP sample here is too small to carry predictive weight, and the table's own small-sample notice reflects that. The most notable entries at either end: Ezequiel Tovar is 0-for-6 with two strikeouts in career BvP against Andre Pallante, the only Rockies bat with enough plate appearances to show a pattern, however thin. Willi Castro has reached in half his six plate appearances -- .250/.500/1.000 with a home run -- though two walks inflate the on-base figure. Troy Johnston is 2-for-2 with a walk across three plate appearances (.500 AB, 1.000 OBP/SLG), the most favorable line in the table, drawn from the smallest at-bat sample. Six rostered Rockies -- Sullivan, Carrigg, Norby, Ritter, Rumfield, and Veen -- carry no career BvP record against Pallante.

2026 companion columns: sample floor is 60 PA vs RHP (below floor renders SSS in the table above). Above that floor the 2026 vs-hand figure leads the read, with 2025 as the historical anchor; below it, 2025 leads.
Ryan Feltner is a right-hander, and seven of the nine Cardinals starters are right-handed bats -- the group facing his stronger split. Feltner's 2026 OPS allowed against right-handed batters is .857, compared with .871 against left-handed batters, so the right-handed majority steps into his better side tonight.
Among the right-handed bats with a 2026 sample clearing the 60-PA floor, Jordan Walker leads the group at .827 OPS in 424 PA against right-handers this season. Iván Herrera follows at .707 OPS across 427 PA. Thomas Saggese sits at .565 OPS in 63 PA -- just over the floor. José Fermín checks in at .551 OPS across 177 PA. Pedro Pagés posts .648 OPS in 109 PA against right-handers. Ramón Urías has 58 PA versus right-handers in 2026, below the 60-PA floor; his 2025 line against right-handers reads .233/.278/.367 across 273 PA. Joshua Báez has 34 PA against right-handed pitching in 2026, too small to report split rates reliably.
The one left-handed bat in the lineup is Nathan Church (CF), who carries a 2026 OPS of .669 against right-handers across 309 PA -- his stronger side this season (.669 vs. right-handers, .579 vs. left-handers). Church faces Feltner's weaker split, a modest opening for the lineup's lone lefty. Switch-hitter Leo Bernal (C) has 5 PA against right-handers in 2026, too small to report split rates reliably; his 2026 overall sample across both sides is too small to compare.

2026 companion columns: sample floor is 60 PA vs RHP (below floor renders SSS in the table above). Above that floor the 2026 vs-hand figure leads the read, with 2025 as the historical anchor; below it, 2025 leads.
Andre Pallante holds a clear 2026 platoon advantage against right-handed bats: .618 OPS allowed across 259 batters faced, compared with .709 OPS allowed against left-handed batters across 305 BF. Colorado's lineup sends five right-handed hitters and three switch-hitters at him, a group that collectively sits on his stronger side. The six left-handed bats are where the lineup presses its best case.
Among the left-handed starters with cleared 2026 samples, Mickey Moniak leads the group at .855 OPS vs. right-handers over 296 PA -- 26th of 216 NL batters with at least 60 plate appearances vs right-handed pitching. Troy Johnston posts .821 OPS vs. RHP across 309 PA (37th of 216 in that group), and Jake McCarthy checks in at .793 OPS vs. RHP over 360 PA (45th of 216 in that group), though McCarthy is stronger against left-handed pitching this season (.872 OPS vs. LHP). Brett Sullivan sits at .717 OPS vs. RHP over 154 PA (110th of 216 in that group). TJ Rumfield is stronger against right-handed pitching this season (.850 OPS vs. RHP), ranking 29th of 216 in that group.
On the right-handed side, Hunter Goodman posts .845 OPS vs. RHP over 334 PA -- 30th of 216 NL batters with at least 60 plate appearances vs right-handed pitching -- though he is stronger against left-handed pitching this season (.873 OPS vs. LHP). Connor Norby is stronger against right-handed pitching this season (.682 OPS vs. RHP over 209 PA), ranking 126th of 216 in that group. Ezequiel Tovar is also stronger against right-handers (.603 OPS vs. RHP over 311 PA), ranking 170th of 216 in that group. Jordan Beck is stronger against left-handed pitching this season (.782 OPS vs. LHP); his 2026 vs.-RHP line across 71 PA reads .322 OPS. Ryan Ritter's 2026 sample vs. RHP is 11 PA, too small to report a split rate reliably; his 2025 baseline across 163 PA reads .224/.287/.327.
Among the switch-hitters, Willi Castro shows .772 OPS vs. RHP over 311 PA (58th of 216 in that group). Cole Carrigg is stronger against left-handed pitching this season (.787 OPS vs. LHP, compared with .768 OPS vs. RHP); that vs-LHP mark ranks 56th of 148 NL batters with at least 60 plate appearances vs left-handed pitching. Adael Amador's 2026 sample vs. RHP is 13 PA -- too small to report split rates reliably; his 2025 baseline across 103 PA reads .211/.290/.322. Zac Veen's 2026 sample vs. RHP is 35 PA, also too small to report reliably; his 2025 baseline across 27 PA reads .154/.185/.308.

| Andre Pallante | vs RHB | 368 | .275 | .345 | .429 | .774 | 11 | 51 | 259 | .231 | .618 |
Ryan Feltner enters tonight having faced a right-side-heavy Cardinals order -- seven right-handed bats, one left-handed bat (Nathan Church), and one switch-hitter (Leo Bernal) -- against a split that offers little separation in 2026. Feltner's 2026 line vs. right-handed batters is .274/.329/.528 over 213 BF (.857 OPS); against left-handed batters it is .288/.369/.502 over 242 BF (.871 OPS). He is stronger against right-handed batters this season -- .857 OPS allowed compared with .871 against left-handers -- but the gap is narrow, and the Cardinals' seven righties land on his marginally firmer side rather than exploiting a pronounced vulnerability. His 2025 line vs. right-handed batters showed a wider spread: .250/.269/.406 across 67 PA (.675 OPS) versus .293/.397/.483 against left-handers (68 PA, .880 OPS). Church is the one Cardinals left-handed bat who arrives on Feltner's softer 2026 side.
Andre Pallante faces a Rockies roster whose confirmed starters will be set closer to first pitch; the available pool carries six left-handed bats, five right-handed bats, and three switch-hitters. Pallante's 2026 line vs. right-handed batters is .231/.297/.321 over 259 BF (.618 OPS) -- he ranks 70th of 226 NL pitchers with at least 60 batters faced vs. right-handers in OPS allowed. Against left-handed batters across 305 BF his 2026 line is .263/.321/.388 (.709 OPS) -- right at the NL midpoint among pitchers with at least 60 batters faced vs. left-handers (110th of 213). He is stronger against right-handed batters this season: .618 OPS allowed compared with .709 against left-handers. The Rockies' six left-handed bats in the available pool align with Pallante's softer side; the five right-handed bats fall on the side where he has held hitters to a markedly lower OPS this season.

| Andre Pallante | Home | 340 | 78.0 | 5.42 | 44 | 27 | 10 | 80.2 | 4.02 |
Andre Pallante takes the mound on the road tonight, which is his stronger setting in 2026 -- a 2.93 ERA and .613 OPS allowed across 55.1 innings away from home, compared with a 4.02 ERA and .703 OPS allowed in 80.2 innings at home. By ERA among NL pitchers with at least 20 innings on the road, he ranks 40th of 170 (league average 3.97). His 2025 away line (84.2 IP, 4.89 ERA) and home line (78.0 IP, 5.42 ERA) ran in the same direction -- the road has consistently been the friendlier venue.
Ryan Feltner starts at home tonight. By OPS allowed his home side has been marginally quieter this season, .857 at home against .873 on the road, but by ERA it runs the other way: a 6.26 ERA in 54.2 home innings against 5.36 in 47.0 away innings. By ERA among NL pitchers with at least 20 innings at home, he ranks 168th of 180 (league average 3.84) -- the venue is no shelter, and Coors amplifies his profile whichever way the split points. His 2025 splits ran similarly: a 4.60 ERA in 15.2 home innings against a 4.91 ERA in 14.2 away innings across a smaller sample.

From the third pass on in those same starts: .965 OPS -- 91 PA. Early hooks: 3 starts, 11 PA. Andre Pallante has pitched into a third pass in 23 of 24 starts. In the 23 starts he pitched into a third pass, hitters posted a .613 OPS on the second pass -- 207 PA. From the third pass on in those same starts: .684 OPS -- 132 PA. Early hooks: 1 start, 9 PA. Per-pass rate stats resting on fewer than 50 PA render as their PA count, never as a decimal; 2026 companion columns carry their own 60 BF floor (below floor renders SSS).
Ryan Feltner has pitched into a third time through the order (a third pass) in 17 of 20 starts. In those 17 starts, hitters posted a .812 OPS against him on the second time through (the second pass) across 153 PA -- and .965 OPS from the third pass on across 91 PA. His 2026 per-pass line traces the same arc: .861 OPS against across 181 batters faced in the first pass, .838 in the second across 164 BF, and .965 in the third across 91 BF. The third pass is his weakest this season.
Andre Pallante has pitched into a third pass in 23 of 24 starts. In those 23 starts, hitters posted a .613 OPS against him on the second pass across 207 PA -- and .684 OPS from the third pass on across 132 PA. His 2026 per-pass OPS reads .698 across 216 BF in the first pass, .627 across 216 BF in the second, and .684 across 132 BF in the third. The first pass is his weakest this season, with the second his sharpest and the third between them.

2025's league average strand rate was 68.8%. Riley O'Brien leads this group at 70.0% across 10 inherited runners, the only Cardinal in this set at or above that baseline. Kyle Leahy has stranded 62.1% of his 29 inherited runners -- the largest sample here -- while Gordon Graceffo (54.5%, 11 IR) and Ryan Fernandez (50.0%, 8 IR) sit below the group. Michael McGreevy has stranded all 3 inherited runners he has faced, though the sample is small. All five carry active 2026 workloads: Leahy leads at 129.1 IP (3.13 ERA, 1.31 WHIP), McGreevy at 147.1 IP (3.97 ERA, 1.26 WHIP), Graceffo at 71.1 IP (2.78 ERA, 1.07 WHIP), O'Brien at 56.0 IP (4.18 ERA, 1.25 WHIP), and Fernandez at 23.0 IP (3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP).

Sample floor is 50 balls in play (PROVISIONAL): below floor renders "--" in the table above -- cite the raw BIP/AB count instead of the rate.
Andre Pallante's 2025 contact profile ran heavily to the ground ball -- 61.2% GB rate across 515 balls in play -- with fly balls accounting for just 18.3% of contact. That shape puts a premium on Coors Field's infield and limits the air-ball damage that plays up at altitude. Against Pallante, most contact will roll, not fly.
The Colorado lineup has a consistent pattern against grounders: Goodman (.333 GB AVG), Beck (.287), Castro (.227), Moniak (.257), Norby (.218), Tovar (.225), and Ritter (.183) all have publishable 2025 ground-ball averages, ranging from productive to modest. Goodman and Beck are the two who turn ground balls into hits at the highest rate in this group. Four others -- Adael Amador, Troy Johnston, Brett Sullivan, and Zac Veen -- each have fewer than 50 balls in play on record, so no ground-ball rate applies to them tonight.
Line drives are where this lineup does its most reliable damage across the board: Beck (.670 LD AVG), Goodman (.674), Norby (.714), Castro (.587), Tovar (.588), and Moniak (.614) all post strong 2025 line-drive averages. McCarthy and Ritter each have fewer than 50 line-drive AB on file, so no rate applies there. A pitch that flattens and stays in the zone is the clearest risk; Pallante's ground-ball tendency mitigates that, but the lineup can capitalize when contact does elevate.
Ryan Feltner's 2025 profile is more neutral: 48.9% GB, 30.9% FB, 19.1% LD across 94 balls in play. He induces fewer grounders than Pallante and allows more air contact, which at Coors Field amplifies fly-ball outcomes. Tonight's contact shape against Feltner is read through his own profile and the Cardinals' platoon/situational tendencies.

| Iván Herrera | 5 | 23.2 | 4.56 | .271 | -- | -- |
Yohel Pozo and Jimmy Crooks each appear in the 2025 pairing history but are not on the Cardinals active roster tonight. Leo Bernal, listed at catcher in tonight's lineup, has no 2025 games paired with Andre Pallante -- this is a fresh battery. Pedro Pagés also appears in tonight's lineup and carries the deepest 2025 pairing record: 15 games and 76.1 innings with Pallante, during which opponents posted a 4.60 ERA and .257 average. Iván Herrera's five-game sample from 2025 (23.2 IP, 4.56 ERA, .271 average) is the next largest among active roster catchers. Pozo's eight-game stretch (37.2 IP) produced a 6.93 ERA and .303 average, the weakest results in the table, but he is no longer on the roster and does not factor in tonight.
2I: BASERUNNING MATCHUP
Colorado baserunning (2026): Jake McCarthy leads the Rockies running game with 26 steals against 5 caught stealing (83.9% success rate across 31 attempts). Jordan Walker's 2026 K% of 24.9% runs above the league average of 22.1%. At the bottom of the order, Pedro Pagés (2026 K% 26.3%) and Thomas Saggese (2026 K% 29.0%) carry elevated strikeout rates against a starter in Ryan Feltner whose 2026 K% of 16.7% ranks 90th of 106 NL pitchers with at least 60 innings — a below-average punch-out rate that may limit the group's exposure to extended at-bats. Nathan Church's 2026 K% of 18.0% represents an improvement from his 2025 mark of 27.7% across 65 PA.

Jordan Beck's 2026 K% of 30.1% across 146 PA carries a smaller sample, consistent with his 2025 mark of 29.6% across 587 PA. Ryan Ritter (21 2026 PA) and Adael Amador (22 2026 PA) have 2026 samples too small to report split rates reliably; their 2025 figures of 29.5% and 21.1% K%, respectively, stand in the table. Andre Pallante's 2026 K% of 17.2% ranks 88th of 106 NL pitchers with at least 60 innings — a below-average strikeout rate that aligns with a lineup carrying several free-swingers at the top of the order.

Ryan Feltner's 2025 ground-ball rate sits at 48.9% across 94 balls in play, matching the contact shape of the heavier ground-ball hitters in this Cardinals lineup. Iván Herrera (52.6% GB, 285 BIP) and Jordan Walker (48.9% GB, 231 BIP) align most directly with that tendency -- balls put in play against Feltner run toward the ground rather than the outfield. Pedro Pagés (44.9% GB, 243 BIP) and Ramón Urías (45.1% GB, 253 BIP) are the lineup's more balanced contact profiles, with fly-ball rates around 29-31%. Thomas Saggese (41.8% GB, 28.6% LD, 189 BIP) carries the group's highest line-drive rate. José Fermín (46 BIP) and Nathan Church (37 BIP) are below the floor; their rates are not published.

Andre Pallante's 2025 ground-ball rate is 61.2% across 515 balls in play -- a heavy sinker-type profile that sets a clear contact expectation for the Rockies' lineup. Six Colorado hitters carry publishable batted-ball profiles, and most trend toward ground balls: Jake McCarthy leads at 54.5% GB (154 BIP), followed by Ryan Ritter at 49.6% (121 BIP) and Willi Castro at 42.5% (280 BIP). Hunter Goodman (42.0% GB, 357 BIP), Jordan Beck (43.6% GB, 344 BIP), and Connor Norby (40.8% GB, 213 BIP) sit in a similar band. The two profiles that cut against Pallante's ground-ball shape most are Mickey Moniak (35.8% FB, 36.5% GB, 299 BIP) and Adael Amador (37.8% FB, 36.6% GB, 82 BIP) -- both lean toward fly balls. Ezequiel Tovar posts the group's highest line-drive rate at 33.7% (252 BIP). Troy Johnston (34.6% LD, 81 BIP) matches Tovar's line-drive tendency in a smaller sample. Zac Veen (17 BIP) and Brett Sullivan (3 BIP) are below the floor; their rates are not published.

KEY MATCHUPS
Feltner vs. STL right-handed core. Ryan Feltner's 2026 platoon splits show .871 OPS allowed against left-handed batters and .857 against right-handed batters — a gap of 14 points — so St. Louis' seven right-handed bats carry no platoon edge facing him. The right-handed group does face a pitcher who has allowed a .528 slugging percentage and 19 home runs across 213 right-handed batters faced this season. Jordan Walker (.827 OPS vs. RHP across 424 PA in 2026) and Iván Herrera (.707 OPS vs. RHP across 427 PA) represent the lineup's volume threats against right-handed pitching; Joshua Báez has 34 PA vs. RHP in 2026 — too small a sample to report split rates reliably.
Pallante vs. COL lefty majority. Andre Pallante is stronger against right-handed batters this season: .618 OPS allowed across 259 batters faced, compared with .709 OPS allowed against left-handed batters across 305 batters faced. Colorado's lineup carries six left-handed hitters and three switch-hitters, placing the bulk of the order on Pallante's weaker side. Jake McCarthy, TJ Rumfield and Mickey Moniak all hit right-handed pitching as their stronger platoon side, and all three land against Pallante at his less suppressive split — Moniak, whose numbers against right-handers lead the three, is the bat most likely to make that mismatch count.
Feltner third-pass danger. Ryan Feltner has pitched into a third pass in 17 of 20 starts this season, and the third pass is his weakest. The first three hitters in the St. Louis order — José Fermín, Iván Herrera and Jordan Walker — are the group most likely to see him a third time, and those third-pass numbers come only from the starts he was left in.
WATCHLIST
-- Andre Pallante. If Pallante generates his 2026 ground-ball rate (61.6%, against the league's 47.0%), watch for Coors to do less damage than usual -- his sinker-heavy approach is the one pitcher profile that keeps the ball on the carpet where the altitude cannot amplify it.
-- Ryan Feltner / Ivan Herrera. If Feltner's 2026 walk rate (9.9%, above the league's 8.9%) holds tonight, watch whether Ivan Herrera -- whose 2026 BB% of 11.0% ranks 42nd of 161 NL hitters with at least 200 plate appearances -- turns those free passes into traffic for Jordan Walker behind him: with Feltner's third pass his weakest, a walk-heavy first two trips through the order is what drags a third look forward while he is still in the game.
-- Jake McCarthy / Pedro Pages. If Jake McCarthy reaches base, watch whether Pedro Pages can keep him at first: a runner who goes first-to-third at Coors manufactures runs before the Cardinals ever record an out, and every extra base McCarthy takes is one the lineup behind him does not have to earn.
-- Andre Pallante / Mickey Moniak / Adael Amador. If Pallante's sinker keeps the ball down, watch Mickey Moniak and Adael Amador -- Colorado's two fly-ball-leaning bats, at 35.8% and 37.8% fly balls in 2025 -- for the first sign he is losing it: the night Coors hurts Pallante is the night those two get the ball in the air.
